Crafty Giveaway #1--Hungry Caterpillar Pendant

Alrighty supplyaholics....now is your chance to win a lil piece of my craftiness! Apparently Eric Carle's lawyers have got a corn cob up their behind and are trolling sites like Etsy. Normally I am not one who uses 'trademarked' fabric, but I love me some Very Hungry Caterpillar. So I used a little snippet of the fabric to make a glass tile pendant.

Apparently Mr. Carle's lawyers are on the hunt and they had Etsy pull my listing. Well you know what...Mr. Carle..now I"m GIVING IT AWAY! HAHAHHAHAHAH That doesn't break any copyrights and BLLEEEHWHHWHW on you.

Don't get me wrong, I think trademarks, copyrights, etc are all very important..but let's be real. I'm one mom working from home..not a huge company who's going to put Eric Carle out of business.....seeing as he could never write another book and his great, great, great, great, great grandchildren will still be set for life. And let's not mention that Mr. Carle got his piece of the pie when I PURCHASED said fabric at retail prices!

SOOOOOO my loss is your gain! You can now win said Very Hungry Caterpillar pendant! What to do? Just leave me a comment on anything! Share your fave craft, new projects, your links, blogs, WHATEVER! Just make sure I have  a way to FIND you when you win!!!

  4. It's too bad and so sad that you can't share your love of this little guy in your own crafty way. Big ol' corporate with nothing better to do... :(

  5. Ya know...my dad's a lawyer, and I think it described the profession accurately....he says that lawyers are today's version of PIRATES....they freaking steal from everybody....of course, he's a public defender, so he says that public defender's are kind of like Robin Hood...ah well....love your pendant, hate the politics

  8. I like your catepillar. The lawyers need to pull up their big boys panties so they stop getting them all bunched up.LOL

  9. Well ... my view of such things is (hold your breath now) far off center, yet I choose to (mostly) comply since these are the times we live in.

You see, I feel the same about copyrights and trademarks as I do about land-ownership: We "own" nothing ... such ideas are a myth of our modern times ... a myth that feeds the negative aspect of ego, power-over, greed and taxes.

I often refer to the little patch of earth that i "own" as *rented* from my local government, and the patch still mortgaged as on loan to the bank from that same pesky government.

Oh goodness ... don't get me going! :)

  10. LOL Rose I totally get that. Actually I feel nothing I have is MINE, it is merely blessings God has allowed me to have and GOd is my boss, not man, BUT God requires I follow mans laws as long as they don't contridict HIS laws.

I normally do my best to respect copyrights, trademarks etc. But fabric is one thing that gets me because the original owner GETS their money when I BUY the fabric. So its not as if I ripped out the caterpillar book and did something to it (which I'd never do because I do NOT alter books).
I guess its just sad for me because I do love Eric Carle's books and I absolutely respect his artistry and job. But he already GOT my 5.99 a yard or whatever I paid for that fabric, so I dont' see why I can't use it as I see fit.
But alas...that is the way it is....so now ya'll can enjoy it :) LOL

  11. Love the caterpillar! I accidentally bought two yards of licensed fabric this past spring to make Jewelry Totes from...needless to say I discovered I couldn't sell them, so I gave totes to all my girl cousins when I went for a visit.
It really is a shame to buy and pay the asking price for fabric or anything for that matter, and then not be able to use it as you like.

  12. That is too cute and such a crappy thing to do to you too. You'd think that once you purchase something, it is then yours to do with as you will.

Let's see comment.... Does the above blog post count. Hmmm, I bought some button supplies to make me some hair clippies. Like I need another thing to get addicted to.

  13. I love that pendant!! I agree that I'm one for respecting patents and such, but I honestly would have thought that purchasing the fabric gave you the right to do with it what you want. So sorry!!!!

  15. First it was taggies.. now Mr Carle, who ya gonna piss off next Amy. LOL!

Oh I just have to share this little gem of a site. http://www.favorfrenzy.com. I'm hoping that the stuff I got is good enough quality. I'll let you know when I get the order in. I saved more than $10 on what I ordered here than what I would have paid at that Jo store with my 40% off coupon. Gotta love deals. :)

  16. I thought I did this already but anyway....

Oh yeah I uploaded a pic (not a great one though) of the sock monkey to the "show your stuff" photo album on the HML yahoo group.

I love this and all of your pendants!
